Sunday Stills: City Chick Considers and Egg Art

City Chick actually considered doing the army crawl across this to get to the barn loft door to throw hay in the truck. After thinking about this for a good thirty seconds, she realized she could just get in through the loft door from standing on the bed of the truck. The smarter option to be sure … But the little kid version of City Chick is a little disappointed …

Movie Monday: One Day Late

Ok, since we’re running a day behind, we’re going to do a double feature!

Movie #1:City Chick and Awesome Twin A demonstrate how rump bells on a horse harness should work. Note the people at the end of the clip – they got in a bidding war over the bells when they auctioned them off. Must have been our excellent demonstration skills.

Movie #2: City Chick gets a driving lesson with Thelma and Louise with our friend KC, who is fearless and more than a little bit of a daredevil! He worked our girls right on down the road to the surprise and delight of the neighbors!

January – to new opportunities and new adventures!

It is a new year and time for new shenanigans at Kuhs Farm.  While this is pretty late for some New Year’s Resolutions, perhaps, maybe we’ll consider these some goals to accomplish or opportunities for improvement.  That way we can do the 2013 recap and see how we did.  Of course, these are City Chick goals . . . Farm Girl might have some of her own ideas!

2013 goals can all be summed up under one theme: ORGANIZATION.  If Farm Girl got hit by a bus or ran away to Italy, we’d be scrambling to keep the farm running smoothly on all fronts.  While tacking the farm on all fronts is beyond my personal scope (since I do have an actual full-time job that seems to take up an inordinate amount of time!), I think I can safely tackle two of the major elements of the farm: the animals and selected storage areas in addition to having some more fun and adventures this summer.

First, the animals.  We have a lot.  They all have different needs.  So, I am going to create a working database for all of the records for all of our critters.  Vet records, vaccination records, farrier work, any procedures, special notes for feeding, etc.  It is going to take a while to get it going, but thankfully I have a hubby who is rather good at setting up databases like this.  It is just going to take patience to track down all the paperwork we have and get it entered.  We’ll be able to quickly print off any record of an animal and have all the information at our fingertips.

Second, selected storage areas.  Those who have spent time with me at the farm know that I dearly love things to be organized.  It makes me happy.  I like going for an item and being able to find it exactly where I put it (doesn’t everyone?).  Everything should have a home and everything should be back home at the end of every day.  So, I am going to tackle the big storage room in the barn, the main tack room and the front half of the six car garage.  It will probably take a small army to accomplish this, but it can be done and is going to be done!  City Chick is on a mission . . . and I’m betting I might find a few surprises from Farm Narnia in those rooms.

Finally, when the event season goes on the brief middle of summer hiatus, I am hoping we’ll be able to get out and explore Missouri and Illinois some more.  There are so many interesting little towns and shops and flea markets out there to find little bits of inspiration.  I know any road trips will include some shenanigans (seriously – I think I want to stop at every road side antique store everywhere.  How could there not be some shenanigans ensuing from such a trip?)  Plus . . . there might be chickens.  Always need to keep an eye out for more chickens.

Has anyone else made a resolution to get organized or take on a really big project or two?  How are you going to break it down
